As someone who’s spent years testing and evaluating headsets for business use at Headset Advisor, I always look for headsets that are different or better, and help improve communications for those working from home or in a busy office. One headset that caught my attention recently is the Yealink WH63 E2. This is one of the newest additions to the Yealink headset line, and though it’s a refresh of the popular WH63, it received some nice upgrades over its predecessor. In this blog, I’ll share why the WH63 E2 stands out, from its improved design, to its DECT technology, versatile wearing options, and why it’s a fantastic choice for professionals who need PC and desk phone connectivity. Spoiler alert: it’s not perfect for everyone, but for the right user, it’s a rock solid pick.

Why The WH63 E2 Feels Like A Big Step Up
When I first tried the original Yealink WH63, I liked that it was lightweight, and could be worn in different configurations, but as with any headset, I knew there was room for improvement. The WH63 E2 took the original WH63, which admittedly is a very good headset, and engineered some updates that help to make this an even better headset.
So What’s New?

One of the key things that’s new is the Yealink WH63 E2 got a new headset stand. Comparing it to the original, this new stand is significantly more sleek and modern looking, and way more functional and user friendly.
LED status indicators on the front of the base give you a quick glance at whether the headset’s connected or charging, which makes for easy reference.
The back of the stand now has:
- Two USB-C ports for hooking up to a laptop and desk phone
- A power port
- And a spot to plug in an optional Yealink BLT60 busy light
From a user perspective, these updates give the base more visual appeal, and also help to make it more functional overall.
Wireless Range

The wireless range on the Yealink WH63 E2 received a massive upgrade. Range went from the original WH63 that was rated at up to 394 feet, to a whopping 607. It's worth noting here that the actual range you'll get will vary depending on your environment.
A safe way to estimate true wireless range is to take the stated wireless range and cut it in half. That allows for the impact of obstructions such as walls, doors, elevators etc. which can all have a lowering affect on wireless range. Even when considering this, the Yealink WH63 E2 could likely provide over 300 feet of wireless range. That's the distance of a football field, which outperforms any Bluetooth headset by a country mile.
DECT vs. Bluetooth
Let’s talk about the Yealink WH62 E2 DECT technology compared to Bluetooth for a moment, with range being one key differentiator. Compared to Bluetooth headsets, DECT headsets give you a bigger footprint to walk, talk for greater versatility and productivity.
The 607-foot wireless range blows Bluetooth out of the water—most Bluetooth headsets are rated between 30-100 feet, and in real world use situations, that range can be significantly less. I know, because I use one, and sometimes I can't go any further than 20 feet before the signal begins cutting in and out, or the signal is lost entirely.
With the WH63 E2, if you work from home you’ll be able to walk from your desk to the kitchen to grab a coffee for example, and in an office, this means you can move more freely around your workspace to do more. You have more freedom to walk throughout the office to interact with colleagues, go into a warehouse, or just grab a document from the printer. However you use this longer range, suffice it to say that you’ll stay connected far beyond where Bluetooth headsets drops off.
DECT also handles busy environments better than Bluetooth as well. With DECT, the WH63 E2 supports up to 200 users (Europe) in the same space without crosstalk, which is a huge win for call centers or open-plan offices where user density is typical. Plus, the military grade encrypted connection gives peace of mind that client conversations are secure, something Bluetooth can’t always guarantee.

No Mobile Connectivity
But here’s the catch—and it’s a big one: the WH63 E2 doesn’t connect to mobile devices as this is a DECT headset. So if you’re someone who needs to connect to a mobile phone or tablet as part of your daily work regimen, this headset isn’t for you.
We’ve tested plenty of Bluetooth headsets that pair easily with phones, and that flexibility is great for anyone who is always on the go, or toggles between devices throughout the day. The WH63 E2 is designed for those needing connectivity to computers and desk phones, so if that’s what you need, then the WH63 E2 is well worth considering.
Here's a list of the phones that the Yealink WH63 E2 is compatible with:
- Yealink Phone: T4XS/T4XU/T53/T5XW/T58A/VP59/T58A;
- Teams Phone: MP52/MP54/MP56/MP58;
- POLY IP Phone: VVX401/411/450/600/601;
- SNOM IP Phone: D765/385
Other desk phones can be connected via the optional EHS62 wireless headset adapter, or EHS35 telephone cable.
The Stand: A Small Change That Makes A Big Difference

The original WH63’s base was functional but a bit plain and less refined. The E2’s stand, on the other hand, looks like it belongs in a high-end office. Its sleek design and LED indicators make it feel premium, and I think you’ll appreciate how the lights let you know the headset’s status without needing to navigate software.
The dual USB-C ports are a practical touch—you can connect to a laptop and desk phone simultaneously, which saves you from swapping cables during busy days. The option to add a busy light is another nice feature; it’s perfect for signaling to coworkers (or family at home) that you’re on a call. Busy lights help to minimize interruptions, and help you to stay focused and productive.
Functionally, the stand is a hub that can help simplify your set up. Plug it in, dock the headset, and you’re ready to go. It’s these little quality-of-life improvements that could easily persuade someone to consider the E2 over the original—it’s clear Yealink listened to user feedback and made the base more attractive and more practical.
Versatile Wearing Options

One of the things that will appeal to most people is the many ways you can wear the headset, and its comfort because the WH63 E2 is a convertible design, and at just 19 grams, this headset is light enough to comfortably wear all day. The three wearing styles included in the box, with an optional fourth wearing option make it incredibly versatile.
-
Earbuds: The multiple sizes ensure a snug fit, and they’re very discreet. This is the perfect choice for those who have a like, and history of using earbuds and prefer that wearing style.
-
Ear Loops: For those wanting a more secure fit, the different sizes of ear loops can help to secure the headset better over using the earbuds alone. This is particularly true if trying the different earbud sizes don’t give you the fit you’re looking for.
-
Mono Headband: If you’re someone who prefers headbands over earpieces, then the included mono, single ear headband wearing style would be the logical choice.
-
Behind-the-Neck Band: This is an extremely lightweight optional (not included) accessory that’s ideal for anyone with sensitivities to headbands, or can’t get a secure fit from earpieces.
This wearing versatility is a huge advantage over traditional headsets, which typically limit you to one wearing style (mono, duo, earpiece for example). With the Yealink WH63 E2, you can change up your headset type whenever you want, so you’re not limited to a single wearing style. The one wearing option that this headset doesn’t cover is dual ear. Some people prefer to have both ears covered, and the WH63 E2 doesn’t offer that. Something to keep in mind if you’re one of those people.
Ear Speaker
This is a very small headset, and because of that, there’s a very limited amount of space for a speaker. The speaker in the Yealink WH63 E2 is decent, and very adequate for calls and meetings, but if sound quality for entertainment is high on your list, this isn’t the headset for you. For voice audio it performs very well, but for music it clearly falls short across the full audio spectrum. Then again, keep in mind that the WH63 E2 wasn’t designed for that purpose.
Noise Cancellation

The Yealink WH63 E2 does a good job to remove unwanted background noise. But, as with any headset, it can’t remove all of it. We did test the headset against the sounds of:
- Babies crying
- Dogs barking
- Typing
- And even against the sounds of a roaring Vitamix blender nearby
The WH63 E2 did a decent job at removing all of these sounds thanks to Yealink's Acoustic Shield technology, though some noises were dampened better than others. Across all these tests, the microphone sound quality remained solid.
neep The Noise
If you’re looking for the ultimate 1-2 punch against distracting noise, consider pairing the Yealink WH62 E2 with neep noise canceling software. You won’t find a better combination of tools to remove noise from both ends of your calls. Yes, neep noise canceling software not only removes noise from your background, but from your caller's background as well. Who Should Buy The Yealink WH63 E2?
In my opinion, the WH63 E2 is a solid choice for business professionals who work from an office or from home and don’t need mobile device connectivity. In particular, those who want a smaller, lightweight headset that offers several wearing choices.
The Microsoft Teams variant is simple to set up, with preloaded Teams software and a dedicated Teams button for instant access and advanced features. The UC variant, compatible with all major UC platforms, gives you flexibility, and the Yealink USB Connect software lets you tweak settings, update firmware, and manage devices (it’s free and worth downloading for accessing advanced features).
The 607-foot range and 8-hour talk time battery make it perfect for long workdays and large workspaces. No more being tethered to your desk or having to accept a small wireless working radius, and the battery life keeps up with busy schedules.
The different wearing styles are a huge plus, especially if you don’t like bulky headsets, can't wear things over your head due to sensitivities, or want the option to switch things up. The Acoustic Shield noise-canceling microphone ensures you’ll sound professional, even in noisy environments, and the intuitive controls (call button, mute button, touch-sensitive volume) make it simple, and a joy to use.
However, if you need a headset for mobile calls or want high-quality music audio, the WH63 E2 isn’t the right fit. Bluetooth headsets are better for phone connectivity, and audiophile-grade headsets will satisfy music lovers. But for a lightweight, long-range, versatile headset for PC and desk phone use, I think the WH63 E2 is tough to beat.
Why I Recommend It
The Yealink WH63 E2 is an improvement over the WH63: it offers a better, more elegant and more functional stand, and smarter design. The DECT technology gives it an edge over Bluetooth for range, reliability and security, and the convertible wearing options make it convenient and adaptable. Sure, it lacks mobile connectivity, but for professionals focused on PC and desk phone communication, that’s a small price to pay for its many strengths.
