Description
Yealink is one of the newer brands in the headset space, but when they entered the market, they did it with a splash. Their headsets are popular for good reasons, and they continue to bring innovative products to the market. Yealink’s latest release is the WH64 dual mode wireless headset.
There are a number of things that make the WH64 a wireless headset worth considering, but none more important than it being the first headset that incorporates DECT, and Bluetooth technology into the headset, and not the base.
This means you have more convenience, greater mobility, less clutter, and several connection options. And because DECT and Bluetooth reside in the headset, there's no need to take a headset charging base with you if working remotely. Fewer things to pack giving you a better, lighter load.
Available Configurations
The Yealink WH64 is available in four different configurations:
- Yealink WH64 Mono - UC version
- Yealink WH64 Mono - Microsoft Teams version
- Yealink WH64 Duo - UC version
- Yealink WH64 Duo - Microsoft Teams version
If you use Microsoft Teams as your single communication platform, then choosing the Teams variant is the right selection.
If you use different UC platforms such as RingCentral, Zoom etc. then selecting the UC version is the right choice.
Connectivity
Here's what the Yealink WH64 connects to:
Microphone - The Tech Inside
Yealink headsets are known to be among the best, and their microphones are part of the reason. Keeping with the tradition, the WH64 comes with a three microphone array to keep you sounding professional. The Yealink WH64 also removes unwanted background noise thanks to the Acoustic Shield 2.0 Technology. This is like having a sound dome around you to help shield the noise so your caller’s aren’t distracted by it. A handy feature if you have noisy coworkers or if you work from home.
The microphone can be worn on the right or left side which is nice because many headsets limit the location of the microphone to only one side. People do have preferences, and microphone placement is one of them.
The microphone boom arm can be raised to mute the microphone, and lowered to unmute it. This is a premium headset feature that’s standard on the WH64, and it brings a lot of convenience by making the muting function quick and easy without needing to feel around for the location of a button, though you do have that option because the headset has a mute button too.
Busylight To Eliminate Interruptions
To help avoid untimely, and annoying interruptions, the Yealink WH64 comes with integrated busylight LED indicators. And if you want to extend the reach of a busy alert, there's an optional external busylight (BLT60) available.
When on calls, others will know because there are LEDs located on the sides of the headset alerting others that you’re busy, and it changes color to notify others of your status. Fewer interruptions means longer concentration and more productivity.
Comfort Is In The Details
The Yealink WH64 is designed for business, and because of that, it wouldn’t be uncommon for it to be worn for long periods of time. That helps to usher in the point of comfort, and whether or not the WH64 is a comfortable headset.
Comfort generally begins with the weight of the headset. With that in mind, the WH64 is on the lighter side of comparative headset weight. Most Mono headsets will weigh in the 4-6 ounce range, with the Duo models generally weighing 6 to as much as 10 ounces. Here’s how the Yealink WH64 compares to these typical weight figures.
- Yealink WH64 Mono Base - 180 grams / 6.3 ounces
- Yealink WH64 Mono headset - 92 grams / 3.2 ounces
- Yealink WH64 Duo Base - 180 grams / 6.3 ounces
- Yealink WH64 Duo headset - 151 grams / 5.3 ounces
As you can see, the weight of the mono and duo headsets fall well below the typical comparable headset. This is a great place to start when you’re needing a headset to be comfortable, but of course there’s more to comfort than weight alone.
The earcups were ergonomically designed for a precise fit, and the ear cushions are made from soft, comfortable materials that help dissipate heat better. Add to that, the headband is padded, and adjustable and you have the foundation for a highly comfortable headset.
Wireless Range - Going The Distance
If wireless range is important to you, then Yealink headsets should be on your short list because their headsets are known to provide longer wireless range compared to other brands. Here’s what you need to know regarding the wireless range of the Yealink WH64.
The WH64 is a dual mode headset with integrated DECT and Bluetooth technologies, both having different wireless range capabilities.
- WH64 wireless range when used in the Bluetooth mode - up to 50 meters / 164 feet
- WH64 wireless range when used in the DECT mode - up to 150 meters / 492 feet
If you compare these numbers with what other brands offer, you’ll quickly see that you get more range with the Yealink WH64. And though range estimates are just that; an estimate, we have found them to be pretty accurate with most Yealink products.
Ear Speakers
The Yealink WH64 comes with 30mm ear speakers. This is pretty standard for most headsets with some offering 28mm ear speakers, and a few others stepping it up to include 40mm. At 30mm though, that puts the WH64 right in line with most headsets in this class.
While on the subject of sound, the WH64 features wideband audio which means you can expect to hear your callers loud and clear.
Battery - All Day Power
If you’ve been shopping for wireless headsets, you know that the length of talk and listening time varies quite a bit from model to model.
Here’s what you get when you order a Yealink WH64 wireless headset for battery life:
In DECT mode:
- Talk Time: Mono headset - up to 14 hours
- Talk Time: Duo headset - up to 16 hours
- Listening Time: Mono headset - up to 14 hours
- Listening Time: Duo headset - up to 17 hours
In Bluetooth mode:
- Talk Time: Mono headset - up to 26 hours
- Talk Time: Duo headset - up to 32 hours
- Listening Time: Mono headset - up to 41 hours
- Listening Time: Duo headset - up to 48 hours
The length of time to recharge the battery is 1.5 hours
With the Yealink WH64, you have plenty of battery strength to power your way through the busiest of days. And if listening to music or Podcasts is what you’re after, you have days of listening, not hours before a recharge is needed.
Ports & Buttons
Below is a graphic of the connector ports found on the base, and the buttons and their location on the headset.
Nothing’s Perfect - What Are The WH64 Shortcomings?
Two useful features not found on the Yealink WH64 are:
Active Noise Cancellation. Yealink headsets overall do a superior job at removing noise from the background, but that noise removal is designed to give your caller a noise free calling experience. Active Noise Cancellation, or ANC, removes that same noise so you don’t get distracted by it. And when you’re not distracted, you stay focused and get more done. Unfortunately, that's not a feature available on the WH64.
Talk Without Removing The Headset. This feature goes by many names such as Transparency Mode, TalkThrough and Aware + Mode. Though this feature is called different things, it pretty much does the same thing which is to allow you to have a face-to-face conversation without the need to remove the headset. Pressing a button turns on exterior microphones that enable you to have the conversation with the headset on. This feature isn't available on the Yealink WH64.
Though the WH64 doesn’t offer these two features, it’s still a great value with its impressive capabilities. Weighing the pros and cons, you’ll probably agree that the pros far outweigh the cons. And when you stop to consider that the WH64 is a dual frequency headset, that makes it unique, and without question, a Unicorn among headsets.
What Makes The WH64 A Good Value
When shopping for a new wireless headset that are several things to be mindful of:
-
-
- Sound Quality
- Comfort
- Connectivity
- Battery life
- Reliability
- Warranty
-
The list above should cover what most people are looking for in a wireless headset, and the WH64 checks the boxes very well.
With the WH64, you get professional grade sound quality, a very lightweight, comfortable headset for all-day wearing, more ways to connect through the dual frequency modes allowing you to work from anywhere, long life battery, a reliable headset backed by a solid warranty from a reputable company. And when you add in the longest wireless range, this headset becomes even more compelling.
Work anywhere. To add to its appeal, you can connect to your computer, USB iP deskphone or your mobile device while in the office, or on the go because the base isn't needed. And that's a statement no other headset can make. So if you're in the office, at the coffee shop, or working from home, you can connect to all your devices while not having the charging base in tow. Less things to pack, and less clutter.
