The Voyager Focus 2 UC keeps with that tradition by providing a pleasant, professional sound. And in our tests, we not only found the audio fidelity to be excellent, but the Focus 2 UC also did well in our noise tests. But there is another area that shouldn't be overlooked; Active Noise Cancellation. Keep Your Focus: Advanced Noise Cancellation
The Poly Voyager Focus 2 made significant improvements in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) compared to the previous model. The original Focus UC offered a simple on/off option, the Focus 2 UC provides you with more adjustment so you can better regulate the noise around you. This means you can create a personalized sound bubble, filtering out distracting background noise while letting in important ambient sounds when needed.
Whether you're wanting to cut out the chatter in the coffee shop or blocking out office noise during an important call, the Focus 2 UC is an improvement over the former model which is nice to see. And though you don’t have multiple levels of adjustment, you do have high and low, which is an improvement over on/off.
Extended Talk Time
The Poly Voyager Focus 2 also includes additional enhancements compared to the earlier model. For example, the battery is more enhanced in the newer model which provides you with extended talk and listening time whether that’s with Active Noise Cancellation activated, or not. And for those inevitable moments when recharging your headset slips your mind, the Focus 2 UC offers the convenience of wired connectivity, which Poly calls Audio over USB. Simply plug in the included USB-C cable and keep the conversation flowing. And when using the headset in wired mode, the battery will continue to charge. This is a feature you’ll find on some headsets, though many don't come with this feature.
Wireless Range
The included BT700 USB adapter is claimed to offer an extended wireless range compared to the previous BT600 adapter used with the original Focus UC model. The original Focus UC has a stated range of up to 98 feet, and the Focus 2 UC has a range estimated up to 164 feet (50 meters). As you’ll see in our review video, the audio quality began breaking up, and became unusable at around 60 feet. Keep in mind that stated range on any headset is based on open field, or line of sight range tests, which have no obstructions. Obstructions are barriers to the wireless signal, which in turn weakens it, and as a result, shortens the range. We normally suggest taking the stated wireless range and cutting it in half. In this case, we’d be in the ballpark, though still coming up a bit short.
By bringing this to light is by no means a knock on the Voyager Focus 2 UC, because other headsets will also come up short in range compared to stated wireless range estimates. One exception we have seen in the past is some Yealink headsets that surprisingly held pretty close to their range projection. One example of this is the Yealink WH62 that delivers wireless range well beyond that of other headsets. So if you're on the hunt for a long range wireless headset, you owe it to yourself to check out Yealink.

But I have to give credit where credit is due, because the Poly Voyager Focus 2 UC is an amazingly comfortable headset. Savy Smart Sensors
Much like the former Voyager Focus UC, the Focus 2 UC has smart sensors that serve some very useful functions. For example, the headset is smart enough to detect when the headset is being worn, or not being worn. When the headset senses that the headset has been removed, it will mute the microphone or pause your streaming media. And when you put it back on, your media or call will resume. You can even accept an incoming call just by putting the headset on.
Smart Sensors can go by other names, such as on head detection, but no matter what it’s called, this feature isn’t commonly found on a lot of headsets. I, for one, find this feature to be useful, convenient and intuitive.
Overall Thoughts
Personally, I’m a fan of the Poly Voyager Focus 2 UC. The reasons include it being a very comfortable headset. The way in which it was designed, including the canopy suspending padded headband cushion, combined with the super soft ear cushions, adjustability and overall lightweight design makes it a very comfortable headset to wear for long periods of time.
I like the sound quality of the microphones, and it does a respectable job at removing background noise. Granted, no headset will remove it all, but it does a decent job at dampening it down to the point where it’s not distracting, or in some cases, not heard at all.
The Smart Sensors provide some user conveniences which are practical in real world working situations. Whether that’s taking a call quickly, pausing the music you’re listening to, or easily muting the microphone, smart sensors are useful and handy to have.
It’s nice that you can select the configuration that matches your situation, whether that’s choosing the Microsoft Teams variant, UC, charging stand, or not, and the type of USB adapter all help to make this a customizable headset to meet your requirements.
