Frequently asked questions
Is a USB dongle or direct Bluetooth better for a work headset?
On a computer, the USB dongle. A headset paired straight to your computer's Bluetooth loses answering, ending and muting calls from the headset, and you can't see your mute status in Zoom or Teams. Our USB dongle vs direct Bluetooth guide also explains why IT teams prefer dongles. On your mobile, direct Bluetooth is the normal connection.
Should I choose DECT or Bluetooth for work?
Choose Bluetooth if you mostly use a computer and a mobile, travel or move between work locations. Choose DECT if you take calls all day at a workstation or need a desk phone connection and more range. The Yealink HA64 Pro and HA68 Pro have both, with up to 606 ft on DECT. Our DECT vs Bluetooth guide compares them side by side.
How do I connect a Bluetooth headset to my computer?
For work calls, plug in the USB adapter that came with the headset. It is usually pre-paired, so the headset connects as soon as it's charged and on; the Shokz OpenComm2 listing says its adapter is "pre-paired to the headset." Then select the headset as your speaker and mic in your calling app. If you pair through the computer's Bluetooth instead, the headset buttons won't control calls.
What makes a Bluetooth headset good for business calls?
A mic that keeps your voice clear and background noise out, a steady connection, and battery for a full day. In our business Bluetooth test, Drew ran mic sound quality and noise canceling tests on the Yealink BH71, the Shokz OpenComm2 and the Yealink HA64 Pro. Consumer headsets often let background noise bleed into calls or drop the connection.
Can I use a Bluetooth headset with my desk phone?
Check your phone model first. A Bluetooth headset may pair with a desk phone and still not answer, end or mute calls the way you expect. Many DECT headsets are made for business desk phones, and the Yealink HA64 Pro adds Bluetooth for your mobile. Our office phone headsets show the cable or lifter each phone brand needs.
