When it comes to headsets for work there really hasn't been a standardized practice among all the different headsets. Before softphones, headsets were designed to work with desk phones with proprietary connections.
What is HID Protocol?
"HID" stands for Human Interface Device and it's a standard that can be prebuilt into a headset that will support any phone system platforms that support HID.
This feature gives you the ability to answer/end calls when away from your computer when using a wireless headset, and typically no additional software download is required.
Or if you use an HID compatible wired headset, you'd be able to answer or end calls directly from the call control on your headset.
Verified phone systems that do offer this feature are Microsoft Teams, Zoom phone, RingCentral, 8x8, Ooma, Vonage, 3CX and Dialpad.
Double check compatibility
Without an HID compatible headset and phone system you won't be able to answer/end calls directly from your headset, so contact us to verify compatibility if this feature is a must.
