Comfort
Weight - 6.5oz
The Poly Blackwire 8225 weighs 6.5oz, which is about the weight of an iPhone.
The weight is almost 50% of the comparable headset, the Jabra Evolve 80, which weighs 11.4oz. You will find that the lighter the headset, the more comfortable the headset is for wearing for more extended periods.
The headset's balance feels lightweight and comfortable for a full working day while still maintaining good sound quality and the added functionality of active noise cancelling speakers.
Adjustable Headband
We all have heads of different sizes and shapes, and a good headset will adjust quickly to the proper fit.
The Blackwire 8225 is easy to find the perfect adjustment for the speakers to sit correctly on your ears. Once the headset is placed on your head, pull down on the speakers, and it clicks into position easily.
Some headsets have fixed position speakers and don't rotate, but most people's ears aren't flat, typically requiring the ear cushions to swivel.
Rotating ear cushions
The Blackwire 8225 speakers, as pictured below, are easily able to rotate a full 180 degrees to fit correctly on your ear or lay flat on a desk.
Silicon headband
There is a soft silicon cushion on the top of the headband that makes the headset's weight feel light and comfortable.
What's nice about the headband being made from silicon is that it is more sanitary and easy to clean, which is increasingly important these days.

Sound Quality

The Poly Blackwire 8225 USB headset has a professional noise cancelling microphone, which means that your customers will hear your voice loud and clear.

Audio quality for hearing
The Blackwire 8225 is designed for the best audio quality possible while maintaining still a small form and comfortable for all day.
Two speakers rest on top of the ear whereas other comparable models have oversized ear cups that fully enclose the ears which typically will produce a bit better sound quality but you sacrifice comfort.
One of the biggest indicators of a headset having good sound quality is the range in bass. Typically small lightweight headsets have flat bass and just music doesn't sound good.
The Poly Blackwire 8225 bass is good enough for most music but I felt the bass was a bit lacking especially being a premium product. I recently did a review of the Discover D722U which is about half the price yet produces much better bass and sound quality. Click here to learn more about the D722U.
The sound quality is good enough for most working professionals though.
Active Noise Cancelling - Noise cancelling headphones
What makes the Blackwire 8225 shine is that it has a switch to activate an electronic active noise cancelling feature to remove unwanted background noise.
How does it work?
Put the headset on.
Turn on your audio of choice such as music, podcast, or phone calls.
Switch the ANC feature to the on position, as pictured below.
That's it.
The ANC mode electronically removes that unwanted background noise to reduce your distractions and be more productive with your work and be less stressed..
When utilizing the feature, it seemed like it helped reduce about 30% of the noise around me, which I find helpful to focus on my work.
Connectivity - USB only
The Poly Blackwire 8225 is a USB wired headset with a 7-foot cable.
Many people are now working from home, and their business communication software is on their computer such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, RingCentral, just to name a few.
Plugin a USB headset to be able to use the phone.
There are two variations of this headset. You can buy it in either a USB-A connector or a USB-C connection. It seems like the industry is moving towards all USB-C ports, which are smaller and can be plugged in upside down, which is nice.
After you plug the headset into the computer, you can use some buttons to interact with the computer. Volume, Mute, ANC, and Answer buttons.
It's a simple plug and play device. As soon as you plug the headset into your PC, it will quickly update the drivers you need, and it's ready to go.
You may need to navigate your sound settings to set the Blackwire 8225 as your default communication device.
What software is it compatible with?
Many companies use different kinds of business communication software. A few examples are:
- RingCentral
- Zoom
- Jabber
- BlueJeans
- Microsoft Teams
- Vonage
- Google Meet
- GoToMeeting
This headset will work with all these platforms and many others, including music and YouTube.
There is advanced functionality that only works on specific software, which most notably is remote answering.
Remote answering allows you to answer and end calls with a push of the button on the headset wire.
Why does this matter?
For wired headsets, it doesn't matter all that much, but it is convenient to push the phone button on the headset to be able to answer and end calls rather than having to navigate the mouse.

Design
Poly always designs their products very well, and they didn't miss the mark on this headset either.
The Poly Blackwire 8225 is made from a variety of Metal, plastic, rubber, and silicon creating a unique looking headset.
The headband has a piece of stainless steel mixed with a soft silicon cushion at the top of the headband for increase in comfort. The design they put together just looks clean and well made.
Wearing the headset makes you feel professional and that you're not wearing a cheaply made product.
