Jabra took a different approach with the Perform 45 Bluetooth headset. With software services like Microsoft Teams adding a Walkie Talkie feature, death of the traditional Walkie Talkie is coming and your mobile phone may be your new PTT device.
As an alternative, you'll now be able to use an optimized device from Jabra/Blueparrott that will allow you to keep your phone in your pocket while you communicate internally with co-workers to take phone calls. You'll be able to communicate with co-workers anywhere there's internet, so range is essentially unlimited.
Jabra Perform 45 Review + Mic Test
Who it's for
The Jabra Perform 45 is a Bluetooth headset for those of you working in retail type environments that do a mix of communicating internally over radio, and talking on the phone with customers or suppliers.
Comfort
Working in a retail environment, chances are you don't want to wear a space helmet. So, the good news is the Perform 45 is extremely low profile and lightweight with 3 different size ear gels to choose from.
Microphone
Noise cancellation is especially important so when you're on a call or using PTT (Push-To-Talk) callers will hear you clearly and not the loud distractions happening around you. If you watch the review video, you'll be able to hear for yourself how the microphone sounds with loud noises going on around you. With such a low form factor, we were surprised how well the Jabra Perform 45 microphone performed (no pun intended). Skip the mic test and hear for yourself.
Walkie Talkie Feature
This is what really make the Jabra Perform 45 different from other headsets available. Jabra looks to be the pioneer with this feature in a headset, so I'm sure some day most of the major manufactures will also have a similar feature.
Most retail type environments use Walkie Talkies to communicate. Some wear an earpiece, whereas others don't and everyone around you can hear your internal communicatons.
Rather than using a traditional Walkie Talkie, you can now get software like Microsoft Teams and use their Walkie Talkie feature. This means you'd use your mobile phone for Push-To-Talk, and paired with the Jabra Perform 45 you'll stay hands free with your conversations private.
Face2Face Mode
This is also a very unique benefit of the Perform 45. If you're helping a customer and internal communications is getting distracting, simply move the microphone up and it will mute all audio until you bring the mic back down.
This allows you to provide better service so you aren't distracted while helping a customer.
Software
We highly recommend downloading Jabra Direct as well to keep your headset updated to the latest firmware at all times, plus you'll be able to customize the call control button to be PTT, speedial, mute and more.
Durable and easy to use
The Perform 45 was made with only 4 buttons (multi function, power on/off, volume up/down) on purpose, so it's very easy to use! It's also IP54 rated so it will protect the headset against dust and water.
Wireless range and battery talk time
Jabra claims the wireless range is rated up to 300 feet (believe that has to be a class 1 Bluetooth device for this type of range), and the talk time is 8 hours for calls or 20hrs for Push-To-Talk.
Final Thoughts
Overall the Jabra Perform 45 is very unique because it's different and solves a problem. You can use this headset for a mix of calls and your Push-To-Talk needs and gives you an alternative to a traditional radio. As long as you have internet, you can communicate internally no matter where you're located! So, if you're working in a warehouse in California and had a co-worker in New York both using the Microsoft Teams Walkie Talkie feature, you could communicate with the press of a button.
