Orosound Tilde Evo Review: Comfort And Noise Reduction For Enhanced Productivity

The French made Orosound Tilde Pro was a hit right from the beginning, and recently, Orosound discontinued that popular headset with an updated model called the Tilde Evo.

Orosound opted to keep its basic design elements, and refresh it with some new technology upgrades. In this blog, I’ll cover this new headset, and how it’s different from its former iteration, and why you might want to consider this new Evo.

Before I jump into the details, if you consider yourself to be a more visual person, you may want to watch our review video rather than reading through this blog. If that sounds like you, then check out the video below. You’ll get a good overview of this new product, and you’ll also hear a sound and noise reduction test which will give you an idea of how this headset sounds. So if sound quality is high on your needs list, and you'd like to fast forward to the microphone sound tests, you'll find them beginning around the 8:30 mark in the video below.

The Orosound Tilde Evo kept some of the design features of the Tilde Pro, but got a refresh.

What Makes The Evo Different

Their are several things that make the Tilde Evo different, especially when compared to the Tilde Pro. Starting with the frame that was patterned after the Tilde Pro, but in the process, it received some nice enhancements, such as the comfort features.

Headband. The headband was completely redesigned by incorporating a floating, suspension pad across the top of the headband. Unlike other headbands that are padded, but stationary, the Evo headband allows the pad to adjust to your exact profile. This enhances comfort, and helps to make this a very comfortable headset.

Ear Cushions. The Orosound Evo gives you the choice of two distinctly different ear cushions;

Orosound Tilde Evo variants
  • Fully surrounding the ear
  • Against the ear

For those who want to remove background noise, the fully surrounding ear cushions passively reduces distracting sounds. The design establishes a noise barrier around the ear making it difficult for noise to penetrate through.

If having your ears fully covered makes you a bit claustrophobic, then there’s the smaller, less confining cushions that go against the ear.  Either way, you have the choice, and as surprising as it may seem, fully surrounding cushions are uncommon on most headsets, so it’s nice to see this as an available option.

Microphone

Orosound Tilde Evo sound quality

The Orosound Tilde Evo comes with 2 MEMS ai noise canceling microphones for professional sounding audio. In order to decide if the sound quality of the Tilde Evo meets your expectations, make sure to check out the sound tests in our video above, because sound quality is a personal, subjective thing.

Here are the ways we tested the microphone:

  1. Quiet environment
  2. Dogs barking
  3. Babies crying
  4. Typing
  5. Roaring blender nearby

So whether you’re looking for a headset that excels at removing unwanted sounds, one that sounds amazing, or both, then check out the video to see how this headset performs.

Before leaving the subject of the microphone, I wanted to make mention of a few other points:

Flexible. You can bend, and adjust the microphone boom so you can place it in the optimum position for optimum sound quality. Sound quality issues are many times traced back to the simple matter of relocating the mic boom so it picks up your voice better. The ideal position is two fingers width from the corner of your mouth, and a pinch below your lower lip. And as basic as this sounds, many headsets have a fixed position microphone boom, which in my opinion, is less desireable compared to a boom microphone that can be adjusted.

Right or Left side. You can place the microphone on the right, or left side, whichever you prefer. And though this may seem trivial or insignificant, most people have a preference on the side they place the microphone, and many headsets limit mic placement to one side only. The Tilde Evo gives you the choice as it adjusts a full 270 degrees.

Mute two ways. You can mute the microphone by pressing the mute button on the microphone boom, or you can simply raise the mic boom itself. When raised, the call is muted, and when lowered, the call  is unmuted. This is seen as a premium feature, one that’s appearing more frequently these days, and I suspect will be standard on most every headset soon.

Comfort

Orosound Tilde Evo comfortable headset

What helps to make the Tilde Evo a comfortable headset? Here’s what I think makes Evo comfort a reality.

Headband. As mentioned earlier, the headband has a floating, suspended cushion, and that shouldn’t be undervalued because it really helps the headset to feel comfortable. After just a moment or two of wearing it, you can quickly see (or I should say feel), its impact towards comfort.

The headband also ratchets up, and down so you can find the height that fits your profile. It’s always annoying when you have to adapt to the limits of a headset, rather than a headset adapting to your personal profile.

Soft Ear Cushions. Whether you choose the larger, or smaller ear cushions, both are soft, and comfortable. No hard material to fatigue the ears.

The ear cushions are attached to the speaker housing that pivots 180 degrees. This allows the headset to conform to the angle of your ears, as well as to allow it to lay flat on a table as pictured above. It also allows it to store away flat which makes it easier to pack and transport.

Weight. Weight always needs to be in the conversation when discussing comfort. The Orosound Tilde Evo is average in weight; not too heavy, not exceptionally light, sort of in the middle. And though I can't boast about it being lightweight in its construction, I can say it wears and feels lighter than the weight might suggest. This is largely due to the thoughtful design that gives it a lighter feel. Here’s how much the Evo weighs;

  • Tilde Evo C - 8.9 ounces
  • Tilde Evo S - 7.4 ounces

Double ear headsets normally weigh around 6-7 ounces, with some weighing less. Others can weigh 10 ounces or more. So as I mentioned a moment ago, that puts the Evo somewhere in the middle, and compared to its predecessor, the Tilde Pro, which weighs in at 7.5 ounces for the S version, you'll see the Evo weight is inline with its former self.

Noise Reduction

If you work in a busy office, an open office, at home, or on the go, you understand the challenges that background noise can create. When you’re working on an important project, or on an important call, noise can be a disrupter. It can derail your message, and cause you to lose concentration, and be less productive. It can also convey an unprofessional image to your callers.

The Orosound Tilde Evo microphone removes unwanted noise at a high level. Whether that’s chatty coworkers, the family pet, crowds or kids, the Tilde Evo will silence the surroundings so noise doesn’t become distracting. In our tests, the Tilde Evo did a great job at removing noise.

Need More Noise Reduction?

background noise

If noise is extreme, and you’re urgently seeking a solution to silence it, here’s a suggestion you should consider. Give noise the 1-2 punch by combining your headset with neep ai noise canceling software. It's like having a protective dome around you, shielding you from the distractions of the outside world.

Why neep? neep works with any audio device (headset, conference phone etc), and blocks noise on both ends of the conversation (their noise, and yours). It’s easy to use, and there’s a free trial available so you can take it for a test drive before deciding if it’s right for you. Just go to neep.com to learn more, or to arrange your free evaluation.

ANC / Aware modes

Orosound Tilde Evo

Active Noise Cancellation is one of the most sought after features on business headsets today. ANC helps to dampen down distracting background noise so you can maintain your concentration. I use a headset with ANC, and when my dog spots the UPS truck, it’s doggie mayhem, I just turn on the ANC, and all that spirited barking fades away. I’m a big fan of that feature.

The Orosound Tilde Evo comes with ANC for better concentration and productivity. It also comes with a second feature called Aware mode.

Orosound Tilde Evo Aware mode for face to face conversations

Aware mode. This is a very useful feature that allows you to have a face-to-face conversation with someone without removing the headset. Most people who wear a headset will be approached during the day by someone wanting to talk with them. That normally requires the person to remove the headset, have the conversation, and put the headset back on. The inconvenience and frustration associated with this is eliminated with the Aware mode on the Tilde Evo. Wouldn’t it be nice if more of life’s little annoyances could be eliminated this easily?

Connectivity

The Orosound Tilde Evo connects to:

  1. Windows and Mac computers
  2. Laptops
  3. Mobile devices

The headset comes with a USB-C adapter for use with computers, and Bluetooth 5.4, which is the latest version at this time.

So whether you need a headset for computer based voice or video calls, or you want a headset to connect to your mobile device, or both, the Evo has you covered.

Charging

Orosound Tilde Evo and charging stand

The Tilde Evo battery can be charged two ways;

  1. Through the included USB-C cable
  2. Through the optional charge stand

Recharging takes 90 minutes, and you get 6 hours of use after just 20 minutes on the charger.

When you select the charge stand, it comes with a couple of USB-C ports, so you can insert the USB-C adapter into the base, rather than into the computer, freeing up more ports for use with other devices.

Ear Speakers

Orosound Tilde Evo ear speakers

One of the many pleasant surprises found on the Evo is the stout 40mm ear speakers. It’s very common for business grade headsets to come with 28 or 30mm ear speakers. After all, these headsets are used primarily for business purposes, rather than entertainment.

The 40mm speakers on the Evo give you a nice listening experience with plenty of volume, rich bass tones, and pleasant mids and highs. Honestly, a nice sound. And for you Audiophiles, no I’m not saying that the Evo speakers deliver premium, professional grade audio like you might find in other entertainment centric headphones. But I am saying for a business calibre headset, these speakers are top notch.

What’s The Verdict?

thumb up thumb down image

Having covered these different points, would I say that the Tilde Evo is worth considering? I’d argue yes, here’s why:

First, it’s a great looking headset with a modern appearance, quality materials, and tasteful fabric accents. So, from a first impression perspective, it passes the eyeball test.

Orosound Tilde Evo worn by a woman in an office

The Evo is comfortable to wear all day due to its design, and comfort features mentioned earlier. Comfort is among the most important things many look for in a new headset, and the Evo checks that box.

Sound quality was engineered into the Orosound Tilde Evo using the latest technology. But as anyone would agree, sound quality is subjective, so whether or not the Evo meets your sound expectations is a personal decision. Hear it for yourself, then decide.

The Evo connects to the most commonly used items such as computers, laptops and mobile devices, so it should meet the connection requirements for most people.

Orosound Tilde Evo

The Evo excels at noise reduction in part due to the surrounding ear cushions for passive noise reduction, ANC for an electronic countermeasure to noise, and of course the noise canceling microphone. So if noise is a problem, the Evo is a good choice for addressing it if you want better sounding calls.

Docking station. I like that you have the option to add the charging stand. It gives you a place to park the headset when not in use, and having two USB-C ports is nice as it frees up USB ports on the computer that can be reserved for other devices. This is a feature you'll find on very few wireless headset bases.

Truth Is -There isn’t one headset that’s best for everyone, so it really comes down to what’s most important to you, and whether or not the headset you're considering has the features you want and need.

The Orosound Tilde Evo is well worth taking a look at, and I’d recommend trying one out beforehand so you’ll know for sure if it’s right for you. Contact us, and one of our Advisors will be glad to make the arrangements for you to try out an Evo headset right in your office.
