EPOS Impact 1000 Wireless Headset: Noise Cancelling, Comfort & Superior Sound

For those of you who are familiar with Sennheiser, you know that’s a name synonymous with quality audio. EPOS is the brand behind the latest Sennheiser technology, and in this blog, I’ll be discussing the EPOS Impact 1000 Bluetooth wireless headset, its features, and whether or not I think this is a good headset to consider.

Before I get started, you might prefer to watch our review video instead of reading this blog. If so, then make sure to check out the video below which includes sound quality tests, and a great overview of this headset, and its features.

Who This Headset Is For

If you’re someone who’s looking for a Bluetooth wireless headset, and you work in a busy office or work in an open office where background noise is a problem, at home, or if you’re a hybrid worker, then the EPOS Impact 1000 should definitely be on your watch list.

This headset provides comfort, which is important for anyone who spends a lot of time on voice or video calls. It has amazing sound quality, which is important for those who want to project a professional image. And, it allows you to select the variant from the different configurations that’s right for you. More on all this shortly.

What’s In The Box

EPOS Impact 1000 box content

When you order an EPOS Impact 1000 wireless headset, this is what comes in the box:

What Makes The Impact 1000 Different

With so many headsets available today, it’s hard to know what separates one brand or model from another. After all, many look alike, and to some, they even sound alike. But, finding out what makes the EPOS Impact 1000 different, and I’d argue, better, is actually pretty easy to see. It comes down to these three things;

  1. Sound Quality
  2. Connectivity
  3. Configurability

When Sound Matters

If you spend a lot of time on calls throughout the day, chances are you want to sound your best. And that can be challenging if you’re dealing with distractions stemming from your work environment. If you work from home, that could be the sounds of the family pet, or children. If you work in an open office setting, that could be the sweet sounds of your noisy neighbors, and if you work remotely, well, that could be just about anything.

The EPOS Impact 1000 excels at quality, premium audio, and that includes both the microphone and the ear speakers. At Headset Advisor, we’ve tested and evaluated hundreds, if not thousands of headsets since our founding in 1994. And I feel safe in saying that when we come across a headset that stands out, we notice it. In this case, the Impact 1000 stands out with its sound quality.

Microphone

EPOS Impact 1000 voice audio quality

The EPOS Impact 1000 features 4 digital MEMS Ai adaptive noise canceling microphones. In our testing, this microphone delivered far more than fancy wording on a spec sheet. In real world use, this microphone will provide you with superior sound quality that’s clearly head and shoulders above the competition. Muting is simple too, and can be done two ways;

  1. Press the mute button
  2. Raise the microphone boom

The headset has some smart features that allow you to Initiate, end, and mute calls by moving the boom arm or taking the headset on/off.

We tested the microphone for sound, quality as well as its ability to remove unwanted background noise. In both cases, the microphone performed flawlessly. So if you want to sound professional, and you want to eliminate distracting noise from your calls, then the Impact 1000 should be your next new headset.

And before leaving the topic of the Impact 1000 microphone, I wanted to note that it can be placed on the right, or left side. Surprisingly, many headsets limit the mic placement to one side only, so with the Impact 1000, you have more options.

No Audio Dropoff

One characteristic of Bluetooth headsets is a noticeable drop off in audio quality when switching from listening to activating the microphone. In other words, when you switch from listening to music, or a podcast for example, to jumping on a live call, Bluetooth headsets will experience reduced audio quality. That’s because the codec used for listening switches to a different codec when the microphone goes live. When that happens, the drop-off in audio is evident.

In our testing, the audio quality in the Impact 1000 remained consistent even when switching between listening and talking, which is uncommon and makes this headset stand out from the crowd. So if your work requires the microphone to be live (such as in Kumospace for example)

As for the quality of the audio itself, I found it to be decent;  not great, not bad. The highs and mids were bright and sharp, though I found the low end bass to be lacking a bit. That said, it’s important to note that the Impact 1000 wasn’t designed to be a premium pair of headphones, like a Sony or Bose for example. With that in mind, for a business grade headset, it’s decent overall.

If this is a very important factor for you, then an alternative to consider with an upgrade in audio and ANC is the Orosound Tilde Evo.

Noise Reduction

EPOS Impact 1000 noise reduction

The second area to look at when evaluating a headset microphone is its ability to remove unwanted background noise. We tested the noise canceling on the Impact 1000 against the sounds of dogs barking, babies crying, office sounds and of course our signature Vitamix blender test. The results were spectacular!

In each case, the Impact 1000 microphone removed the noise to the point where it wasn’t distracting, and I could even say not heard at all. If noise is a problem where you work, make sure to check out the EPOS Impact 1000 because the microphone is that good thanks to EPOS’ Wideband audio.

ANC / TalkThrough

EPOS Impact 1000 Active Noise Cancellation

The EPOS Impact 1000 comes with a premium version Active Noise Cancellation, as they aren’t all created the same way. Specifically:

  1. Active Noise Cancellation
  2. Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation
  3. Hybrid Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation

The EPOS Impact 1000 comes with the latter. In short, it includes external, and internal microphones that listen for ambient noise, where ANC alone has external mics only. And, through its adaptive features, automatically adjusts to the noise it detects. As ANC goes, the Impact 1000 provides the state of the art.

Face-to-face conversations - headphones on. Anyone who uses a headset knows the frustration of face-to-face conversations when wearing one. Here’s how it goes; you’re wearing your headset, and someone approaches you wanting to have a conversation. This requires you to remove the headset, have the conversation, and put the headset back on. This can repeat itself multiple times throughout the workday.

To eliminate this problem, the EPOS Impact 1000 has a feature included called TalkThrough. In short, you can have that conversation without removing the headset. Once activated, the feature turns on external mics so you can plainly, and easily hear the party speaking. One more good reason to give the Impact 1000 solid consideration.

Connectivity - More Is Better

EPOS Impact 1000 connectivity

When considering a Bluetooth headset, chances are good that you’ll discover it can connect to 8 devices, 2 simultaneously. That’s pretty typical to Bluetooth headsets overall. And though the EPOS Impact 1000 can do that, it ups the game by offering connection to 3 devices simultaneously.

You can connect, for example, to a computer, and to two smartphones and switch between them. That provides you with more connection flexibility compared to other Bluetooth headsets.

The EPOS Impact 1000 connects to:

  • PC’s and Laptops
  • Mac computers
  • Mobile devices
  • 3 devices simultaneously

When charging via the USB-C cable, you can use the Impact 1000 as a wired headset

EPOS Impact 1000 wired, or wirless headset

As you evaluate other headsets, keep these different connection options in mind, because chances are good you won’t find another headset that provides the same.

Handoff Delay

In our testing, we found the following when it comes to the time needed to switch between devices:

Bluetooth to Bluetooth - The handoff between these devices was pretty much immediate with no real delay when switching between one phone to another.

Bluetooth to Computer - We noticed a big difference in the time needed to switch the audio between Bluetooth and the computer. Where the handoff was immediate in our Bluetooth to Bluetooth tests, Bluetooth to computer took about 7 seconds, which was a bit of a delay, but in spite of the delay, it worked well.

Computer to Bluetooth - The handoff when going from computer to Bluetooth was fast, and without the delay we experienced going from Bluetooth to the computer.

So if you’re someone who’s looking for a new wireless headset for use with your computer, and smartphone, this is something to keep in mind.

Configuration Flexibility

EPOS Impact 1000 mono and duo models

Most of us like choices. Whether you’re shopping for a new car, or looking over the menu at your favorite eating establishment, choices are a good thing.

Not to be overshadowed by all the other things we get to choose from, the EPOS Impact 1000 also offers choices. Here are the different choices of Impact 1000 you can consider:

  1. Impact 1030 Single speaker or Impact 1060 dual speaker wearing style
  2. Microsoft Teams or UC version
  3. Active Noise Cancellation, or no ANC (Stereo model only)
  4. Charging stand, or no charging stand (Stereo model only)

Battery

EPOS Impact 1000 battery

The battery in the EPOS Impact 1000 provides the following:

  • Up to 19 hours of talk time with ANC activated
  • Up to 20 hours of talk time without ANC
  • Standby time with ANC activated:  50 hours
  • Standby time with ANC turned off:  300 hours
  • Recharge time via the USB-C cable: 1.5 hours
  • Recharge time via the optional wireless charger: 2.5 hours

As batteries in Bluetooth wireless headsets go, this could be seen as being middle of the pack. Certainly enough juice to power you through the busiest of days, and even into the next, but there are models that offer a more robust battery. So it comes down to how important is battery life, and how much do you actually need.

And though you can charge the battery two ways (the USB-C cable, or wireless charger), it’s worth noting that you can continue using the headset with the USB-C cable when it’s plugged in for a recharge. This is a productivity feature found on some headsets, but not all.

Comfort

EPOS Impact 1000 ear cushions

Overall, I’d say that the EPOS Impact 1000 is comfortable, and a headset you can wear for long stretches of time. Is it the most comfortable headset we’ve tested? I’d say not, but it is comfortable enough.

It weighs 6 ounces, which is about average for a headset like this. The ear cushions are made of memory foam, which conforms to the shape of your ears, which is a good thing. The ear speakers pivot for a personal, angular fit, and the headband ratchets up and down so you can find the height best for you.

The padding on the headband isn’t ideal because there’s a void spot at the very top of the band that allows the headset to rest in the charging stand. Initially, that area that’s void of padding can be felt, but in time that awareness faded, and I thought it felt pretty comfortable overall.

Software For The Hardware

EPOS Connect software

EPOS Connect is a free, downloadable application that provides you with instant access to many EPOS headset features. One such feature is sidetone. This feature allows you to hear your voice so you can better regulate the volume. Some people prefer lots of sidetone, while others might want less. Either way, you can fine tune sidetone to suit your needs.

Audio settings is another thing you can adjust within the EPOS Connect app. We all have differences in the way we listen to our music, and through the App, you can adjust audio to your liking.

Why I Like The EPOS Impact 1000

I personally really like the EPOS Impact 1000, and that’s actually saying something considering how many different headsets we test and review. Here are the key reasons I recommend this headset.

Sound quality. Flat out, this headset sounds crystal clear, and rich. Something you don’t get with every headset, no matter the price. It not only makes you sound great, but it does an excellent job at removing annoying background noise. So if you want better sounding calls, have a look at this headset. I think you’ll be impressed.

Noise canceling microphone: The Impact 1000 has a top tier noise canceling microphone and is the top two we've tested as of 2025. So, if it's important for you to be heard clearly without background noise, the Impact 1000 is as good as it gets.

Triple connectivity. Unlike other headsets that provide connectivity to two devices, the Impact 1000 lets you connect to three. Last time I checked, three is better than two, so advantage Impact 1000.

Have it your way. You can choose the configuration that best suits your needs, whether that’s a mono/duo, Teams variant or UC, charging stand/no charging stand, and ANC or no ANC. The Impact 1000 gives you what you need, while preventing you from paying for features you don’t need.

Fit and finish. The EPOS Impact 1000 doesn’t feel cheaply made. There are nice metallic accent points throughout the headset which gives it a richer, more classy look. Well, as headsets go that is. But as you navigate your way through the headset, adjusting here, pressing buttons there, and just accessing it, you can’t help but feel it’s well made.

Wired/Wireless. Another feature that earns marks is the dual use; wired/wireless. As noted earlier, not all headsets (even premium models) allow you to use it while it’s plugged in for a battery recharge. The EPOS Impact 1000 does that, so it earned extra kudos.

Or, if you want to save some money and you prefer a fully wired headset, you can go with the Epos Impact 860, which is the exact same design but the wired version of the Impact 1000.

Super Wideband Audio. I also like the fact that you don’t experience an audio drop off when you go from listening to music, to activating the microphone. As noted earlier, this is a typical problem for most Bluetooth headsets, but EPOS figured out a solution with the Impact 1000.
