Lightweight Comfort And 3 Wearing Styles
You need comfort. If you’re someone who’s on calls all day, the last thing you need is an uncomfortable headset.
Amazingly light. The Jabra Engage 55 Convertible prioritizes user comfort with a lightweight, earpiece design that weighs just 0.63 ounces or 21 grams. Putting that into perspective, the Engage 55 Convertible earpiece weighs about the same as a tea bag.
So it’s not a stretch to say that the Engage 55 Convertible headset is lightweight, and headset comfort generally begins with weight.
Multiple ear tips. The Engage 55 Convertible headset comes with multiple ear tip sizes and an adjustable ear hook for a secure, personalized fit on either your left or right ear. So for those who are looking for a lightweight alternative to an over-the-head style headset, the Engage 55 is worth checking out.
Choose your style. I do like that the Engage 55 Convertible is just that; a convertible headset. I’m a fan of that design because it provides multiple wearing options so you can choose the one you like best.
The Engage 55 Convertible can be transformed into a traditional over-the-head mono style headset with an included lightweight headband. And for those who don’t like earpieces, and headbands, the Engage 55 Convertible also comes with an extremely lightweight behind the neck neckband.
Easy to deploy. And because the Engage 55 includes these three different wearing styles, it makes for a perfect headset choice for a Buyer who’s looking for a headset to deploy to a team. No need to match headset styles to employee preferences because you can distribute this headset and the employee can pick which wearing style they prefer.
Crystal-Clear Audio And Enhanced Call Security
When you’re on important calls, you want to be heard clearly, and without distraction from any background noise that might be going on. And if you work in an office that deals with personal, or confidential type information, then you also need assurance that your calls are secure. If these things are important to you, then you’ll be happy to know that the Engage 55 Convertible checks these boxes.
Professional microphone. The Engage 55 uses a ECM, noise canceling Uni-Directional Microphone that delivers excellent sound quality. It provides crisp and clear voice audio quality so your callers will hear you well whether you’re on a Softphone call, or in the middle of your video meeting.
Removes unwanted noise. The microphone not only delivers professional grade audio quality, but it’s designed to remove background noise. And if you’d like to hear for yourself how the Enage 55 Convertible performed in our sound, and noise tests, make sure to watch the video above, and decide for yourself.
We tested the Engage 55 convertible against two of its competitors; the Yealink WH63 Portable, and the Poly Savi 8340 UC. Which headset came out on top?
Spoiler alert: The Engage 55 Convertible came out on top with the Yealink WH63 Portable placing second, and the Poly Savi 8240 UC coming in third. In our tests, the Poly Savi 8340 UC struggled to provide acceptable voice audio quallity which is why it came in last place in our tests. We did double check our settings, but the poor audio quality remained. In all fairness, Poly headsets aren't known to do this, so we may have been dealing with a problematic headset. But that's how things ended up when we put them up against each other.
Military grade security. When you’re having conversations that involve personal, or private information, you want assurance that your conversations are locked down and secure. The Engage 55 Convertible doesn’t come with stripped down security because it uses FIPS 140-2 algorithms to exceed DECT Security Step C standards making it military grade and highly secure. So if you work in a financial institution, Healthcare facility or in the Government, the security you get with the Engage 55 will keep your conversations secure and private.

Longer Range - Wider Footprint
The Jabra Engage 55 Convertible operates off of DECT technology whereas many wireless headsets today use Bluetooth. One of the big advantages of DECT when compared to Bluetooth is in the area of wireless range.
Bluetooth headsets typically provide up to 100 feet of wireless range, with actual usable range being closer to 50-60 feet. That’s due to environmental obstructions such as walls and other things that interfere with the signal and weaken it. When the signal is weakened, the range is compromised.
490 feet of range. The Engage 55 Convertible DECT headset provides up to 490 feet of wireless range, which is several times more range compared to Bluetooth. But like with Bluetooth signals, DECT signals can also be weakened, and reduced. But, with a starting point of 490 feet, even compromised DECT range is light years better than Bluetooth. So if having the ability to walk and talk to the far reaches of your workspace is appealing to you, then the Engage 55 and its longer DECT range should be of interest.
Want To Know More About DECT?
If the thought of DECT or Bluetooth is a bit confusing, and you’d like to know more about them, and how they’re different, then you may be interested in checking out our informative video below that compares them.
All-Day Battery
7 hours of talk time. While it’s true that Bluetooth headsets are known to provide more battery power than DECT headsets, the Engage 55 Convertible, with its 7 hours of power, provides enough talk time for all-day use. Keep in mind that the extended wireless range is one of the reasons why DECT headsets have less battery life than Bluetooth because longer range requires more power.
8 hour day doesn't mean 8 hours of talking. During the day, most people work 8 hours, and during that time, they take breaks, go to lunch, and have downtime in between live calls. So when you add up this off-call time, you’ll find that actual time on-calls to generally be well within 7 hours. And, for some added insurance or peace of mind if 7 hours is concerning, you can always charge the headset when on a break, during lunch or in between calls. By doing this, you’ll have more than enough battery for even the most rigorous workdays. This is particularly easy if you're using the optional charging base, because it's just a matter of dropping the headset into the base station.
Recharging the battery. The battery recharges through the included USB cable. There’s also an affordable optional charging stand that recharges the battery when the headset is docked. The stand also provides a place to put the headset when not in use, which is convenient.
Battery downside. One disappointment about the battery is unlike the mono, and stereo models, the convertible headset battery isn't replaceable. So when the battery will no longer hold a charge, the headset earpiece needs to be replaced. Me personally, I'd prefer that the headset have a replaceable battery. It's easy to order a battery, and swap it out, and it's less expensive than buying a new earpiece.
Jabra Direct Software: Enhances The Engage 55
Jabra offers free downloadable software that’s designed to provide you with a myriad of feature adjustments, firmware updates, and visibility and control of your Jabra devices across your Enterprise.

Though headset software is becoming more common, there are differences in what the software can control, and of course how easy it is to use. I’m confident that you’ll find Jabra Direct to be feature rich, and user friendly.
Finding The Right Configuration
The Jabra Engage 55 Convertible comes in various configurations to meet your specific needs. Here's a quick breakdown:
- USB-A vs. USB-C: This refers solely to the connection type of the USB dongle. Choose the option that aligns with your computer's available ports (USB-A or USB-C). There are also USB Adapters that can allow devices to connect to your computer if the device USB plug doesn’t match your computer USB port.
- Microsoft Teams vs. UC: For users who primarily use Microsoft Teams for communication, the Teams version offers optimized integration. The UC (Unified Communications) version is ideal for all other platforms and softphones.
- Charging Stand: If you plan on using the Jabra Engage 55 mostly away from an office, then you may not need or benefit from the optional headset charging stand. But if your intended use is most in-office, then the stand would be a logical consideration.
Final Thoughts
The Jabra Engage 55 Convertible is a feature-rich headset that prioritizes style, functionality and portability. With its lightweight comfortable design, exceptional audio quality, all-day battery life, and DECT technology for extended range and security, this headset is a valuable asset for business professionals who are looking for a versatile, flexible, portable, professional sounding business headset.
The three different wearing styles that are included, help to make this a headset that adapts to different wearing preferences. It also makes it a perfect solution to Buyers who are looking for a simple headset solution that can be easily deployed. Each employee can select their specific wearing preference because several are included.
The microphone sounds very professional, and it does a respectable job at removing distracting background noise. So when on important voice calls, or video meetings, your callers will hear you clearly, and not be distracted by the noise in your background.
Because of its small size, it’s easy to transport. The flexible USB adapter helps to avoid breakage due to it being flexible which is different from most USB adapters. Typical adapters are typically left inserted into the USB port, and can get damaged when the laptop is packed away and moved. Here's how the Jabra Engage 55 USB adapter is different.
You can also monitor employees, or enhance their training through the Engage 55 conference feature. You can listen in on calls, you can coach, or you can collaborate with coworkers with the multi- headset pairing.
So if you’re looking for a versatile, professional sounding wireless USB headset for use with computers, the Jabra Engage 55 Convertible is a worthwhile consideration because it's one of the best DECT headsets for business.
