Jabra Evolve2 65 In-Depth Review With Mic & Wireless Range Test VIDEO - Headset Advisor

Every now and then, a new product comes out that catches your attention and leaves a lasting, favorable impression. We’ve all been witness to new products that bombed upon release. Those too left an impression, albeit not a good one.

In this blog, I’m going to introduce you to new wireless Jabra headsets, designed to work with your computer and mobile devices. One such standout is the new Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex headset, a versatile option for those who need both mobility and flexibility in their communications. Alongside this, I’ll also be discussing the features of the popular Jabra Evolve2 65.

I’ll go over some of the key features of the Jabra Evolve2 65 headset, including its microphone quality, and I’ll test the microphone to see how well it does to pick up my voice and that annoying, unwanted background noise.

Lastly, I’ll take it for a walk outside of our office building to see how much wireless range it provides. But, before I get started, I did want to mention that I recorded a Youtube video on this new Jabra Evolve2 65.

If you’re like me, watching a video is far more preferable than reading written content. If that sounds like you, then make sure to check out my video. I’ll insert it below for easy access.

Still with me? If so, then let’s see what this new Evolve2 65 is all about.

How does it look?

Jabra Evolve2 65 lifestyle close up

Right out of the box, I have to say that the Evolve2 65 is a very attractive piece of wearable technology. It has a fresh, modern look with nice appointments throughout. Finished in a matt black, combined with its overall design really puts it into the forefront of headset design. It’s very doubtful that anyone would end up disappointed in the look of the Evolve2 65.

How heavy is it?

Hey, when you’re wearing something over your head for hours on end, weight does become a realistic consideration. So, how much does the Evolve2 65 weigh?

6.22 ounces. Put into culinary terms, that’s less than the 8 ounce petite sirloin you had for dinner last night. Translated back into tech terms, it’s about average for what you’d expect an over-the-head headset to weigh. It’s lighter than many, but heavier than a few. When wearing it, it actually feels lighter than you’d expect.

All in all, it’s light enough to wear all day without experiencing much in the way of user fatigue, unlike some other Jabra wireless headsets. No pain meds needed at the end of the day. Oh, and by the way, the Evolve2 65 not only comes in a duo configuration, but there’s a mono version available as well.

What makes the Jabra Evolve2 65 comfortable?

Not only is weight important, as noted earlier, but comfort is further enhanced by features that Jabra includes across many of its headset lines. For instance, the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex headset incorporates memory foam ear cushions, ensuring long-lasting comfort, much like the Evolve2 65

  1. Fully padded headband. Most over-the-head style headsets don’t have padding on the headband. Some do, most don’t. The Jabra Evolve2 65 not only has silicone padding where the top of your head meets the band, but there’s also padding that continues down, and alongside your head as well. That’s not something you see often, and it’s a sign that Jabra was paying attention to the little details that help maximize comfort.
  2. Oversize memory foam earpads. The Evolve2 65 comes with ear pads that are made of memory foam. Jabra could have used a lesser quality material, but they chose not to. Memory foam works to conform to the shape of your ear which really makes a difference when it comes to short, and long term comfort. The earpads are larger which allows the memory foam to be shared with the entire ear, versus part of it.

How much talk/listen time?

Having a good battery in a wireless headset is a real plus. You get more time to spend with your devices, and less time on the charger. The Jabra Evolve2 65 provides:

37 hours of listening time

35 hours of talk time (without the busy light being on)

24 hours of talk time (with the busy light on)

This is at the high end of battery life when compared to other models on the market. Jabra has some unique battery technology, which sets it apart from many other Jabra headsets in terms of performance. Recharging can be done via USB, or through the headset charging stand (SKU dependent).

The other part of the battery equation is how long does it take to charge the battery once it’s depleted. Once again, you should be impressed because the time needed to recharge the battery is minimal. Specifically:

- You get a full 37 hours of battery life in a short 90 minutes

- You get 8 hours of battery life in 15 minutes on the charger

- 40% of a charge in 30 minutes

- 80% charge in 60 minutes

I feel safe in saying that Jabra has you covered when it comes to battery life on the new Jabra Evolve2 65.

What does the Evolve2 65 connect to?

jabra evolve2 65 in use with computer and mobile phone

This is a wireless headset that’s designed to connect to your computer, and mobile devices.

Computer connectivity can be accomplished two ways:

  1. Via the USB dongle (included)
  2. Via Bluetooth, if your computer is Bluetooth enabled

Though computer connectivity via Bluetooth is possible in many cases, it’s not the preferred method. I say this because with some Bluetooth headsets, the sound quality may be less than if using a dongle.

Additionally, Bluetooth connectivity prevents you from having remote call answering, which is a highly popular feature. Instead of being able to answer calls while away from the desk,

Bluetooth connectivity requires that you return to your desk to receive the call. Manageable for sure, but not ideal.

When using the included Link 380 USB dongle, you’ll have compatibility with applications such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, RingCentral and others. This optimization gives you access to all the available features including remote call answering.

Similarly, the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex wireless headset also connects effortlessly to multiple devices, whether it's a mobile phone, tablet, or computer, using Bluetooth technology. Just like the Evolve2 65, the Evolve2 65 Flex is designed for flexibility and smooth transitions between connected devices.

The Evolve2 65 can simultaneously connect up to 8 devices (iPads, phone, computer etc) without the need to disconnect/reconnect, as it automatically switches from one device to the other.

How does it sound?

The Evolve2 65 comes with a noise cancelling microphone that’s made up of a 3 mic array. This not only picks up your voice well, but it helps to remove unwanted sounds from your background. This could include things like dogs barking, doorbells ringing, office sounds, road noise etc.

In my video, I did a sound test to see how well it did to remove loud office noise. To me, I felt that the Evolve2 65 did a great job to filter out this unwanted noise. If you watch the video, you can decide for yourself.

I think the three microphones contained in the boom arm do a great job to pick up voice sound. I used it extensively while doing the video, which gave me a few different situations to test the microphone sound quality.

To me, it sounded great. You might have a different opinion, as sound quality is a bit subjective. But, overall I thought it sounded solid.

The ear speakers were top notch, truely. I felt that there was a good range of sound from the highs, right down to the deep bass lows, and everything in between.

Though I’m no audio expert, I found the sound quality to more than meet my needs and expectations. I’d be content to use a headset like this not only for business purposes, but for music as well.

Bottom line, the sound on the Evolve2 65 is really good. Clearly Jabra used quality components when making this headset.

What is the wireless range?

The Jabra Evolve2 65 is a Bluetooth headset that utilizes Bluetooth version 5.0. It’s designed to provide up to 100 feet of wireless range.

Typically, we recommend cutting the stated range in half in order to arrive at a more realistic, real world estimate of range.

I did test the range on the Evolve2 65 in my video and true to form, we got about 50 feet of wireless range before it became unusable. Seldom do we find wireless headsets that live up to their stated range estimates, and this headset was no different.

For most people, 50 feet of wireless range on a Bluetooth headset is normally sufficient. To me, the Jabra Evolve2 65 didn’t perform any better or worse than other Bluetooth wireless headsets I’ve tested.

Final Thoughts

  • Great design
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Very comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time
  • The microphone sounds great
  • It does a respectable job of removing unwanted background noise
  • Microphone mutes when raised (you hear a audible)
  • USB dongle changes from green to red when muted
  • Comes with a leather travel case

Would I recommend the Jabra Evolve2 65 headset? Absolutely! It checks just about every box, just like other popular bluetooth Jabra headsets, and looks and sounds good in the process. What’s not to like about the Evolve2 65? To that question, I find myself silent.
